It rained all day and the mud was deep in the yard and lane. We put on boots and went out to play in the wet grass. We jumped in puddles and got very wet from head to toe. The rain fell soft on the roof and trees and made a calm sound. We ran back in and took off wet coats and hung them to dry. Mom gave us hot tea and dry towels and warm dry socks. The rain stopped and a red arc lit the sky over the far hill. We waved at it from the porch and took a photo with dad. The air smelled fresh and clean after the long wet storm. Birds came out and sang in the trees as the sun broke through. We felt glad to be out in the fresh air with friends near. The day went fast and left us tired but full of good cheer. Mom smiled and said we did well and should rest a bit now. We made plans to do it all again when the sun comes back.
