I sit at my desk and do my work when the house is calm. I use a pen to write on the page with slow careful hands. The lamp is on and the room is calm and free of loud noise. I read each line and write the words down in neat rows. When I am done I put the pen in the cup and close the book. I close the book and stretch my arms and roll my shoulders. It is good to work hard and learn new things each day. Then I go out and play for a bit with pals on the street. Mom brings tea and asks how the work went and I tell her all. We felt glad to be out in the fresh air with friends near. The day went fast and left us tired but full of good cheer. Mom smiled and said we did well and should rest a bit now. We made plans to do it all again when the sun comes back. Birds sang in the trees and the world felt calm and bright.
