I go home after a long day at school with my bag and books. I put my bag on the bed and sit down to rest my legs. Mom made hot soup and warm bread for us to share at dusk. We eat at the table and talk a bit about our day and plans. Dad reads the news and I do my work at the desk with care. Then I take a bath and put on soft pajamas and dry my hair. I get in bed and turn off the lamp and pull up the quilt. Soon I am fast asleep and the house is calm and still. I dream of games and trips and pals from my class at school. The clock ticks soft and the moon sends pale light in the room. We felt glad to be out in the fresh air with friends near. The day went fast and left us tired but full of good cheer. Mom smiled and said we did well and should rest a bit now. We made plans to do it all again when the sun comes back. We went to the shop to buy some food for the week ahead. Dad got bread and milk and eggs from the cold back aisle. I picked an apple and a ripe banana from the fruit stand. Mom got rice and beans and a jar of jam for our toast. We stood in line and paid at the desk with cash and card. The man put it all in bags and we took them to the car. We put the food in the fridge and on the shelf in the pantry. Then we made a meal and ate as a team at the long table. We felt glad to have a full fridge and plans for good meals. We felt glad to be out in the fresh air with friends near. The day went fast and left us tired but full of good cheer. Mom smiled and said we did well and should rest a bit now. We made plans to do it all again when the sun comes back. Birds sang in the trees and the world felt calm and bright. We took a boat out on the lake on a calm clear morning. The oars cut the still blue water with a soft steady splash. Fish swam deep and we could not see them in the dark depths. We rowed slow and felt the sun on our skin and faces. A cool wind blew and we put on coats when clouds came near. We ate lunch on the bank and lay in the grass for a nap. Then we rowed back and tied the boat up at the old wood dock. It was a calm and nice day on the lake with mom and dad. We drove home tired and glad and talked about the trip all night. We felt glad to be out in the fresh air with friends near. The day went fast and left us tired but full of good cheer. Mom smiled and said we did well and should rest a bit now. We made plans to do it all again when the sun comes back. Birds sang in the trees and the world felt calm and bright. Mom made a cake for my big day with pink icing and sprinkles. It was soft and sweet and smelled good in the warm kitchen. We lit ten wax sticks and sang a song with all our guests. I made a wish and blew them all out in one long breath. We cut the cake and had a big slice with cold fresh milk. My pals got cake too and we all ate fast and laughed a lot. It was the best day of the year and I felt glad and proud. Dad took photos and mom hugged me when the party was done. We cleaned the table and put the gifts in a neat pile. At night I read the cards and smiled at each kind note. We felt glad to be out in the fresh air with friends near. The day went fast and left us tired but full of good cheer. Mom smiled and said we did well and should rest a bit now. We made plans to do it all again when the sun comes back. A small bird built a nest in the tree near our back porch. It laid four eggs and sat on them each day with great care. We watched from far off so we did not scare her from her post. One day the eggs hatched and out came chicks with wide mouths. They were tiny and had no soft down yet on their thin skin. The mom fed them worms and kept them warm in the tight nest. Soon they grew and flew from the nest on their first try. We clapped as they took their first flight over the green yard. They landed on a branch and sang a short glad song at dawn. We felt glad to be out in the fresh air with friends near. The day went fast and left us tired but full of good cheer. Mom smiled and said we did well and should rest a bit now. We made plans to do it all again when the sun comes back.
