Each day I walk my dog down the lane at the same time. His name is Max and he likes to run and sniff each post. We pass homes and trees and a small pond with ducks and frogs. Max stops to sniff and I wait for him with calm slow steps. Kids wave at us and Max wags his tail and gives a soft bark. We go round the block and head back home when the sun is low. I fill his bowl with food and fresh water from the cold tap. He lies on the rug and takes a long nap till the next walk. We felt glad to be out in the fresh air with friends near. The day went fast and left us tired but full of good cheer. Mom smiled and said we did well and should rest a bit now. We made plans to do it all again when the sun comes back. Birds sang in the trees and the world felt calm and bright. We sat in a ring and sang a song in music class today. Each kid had a turn to pick a tune we all knew by heart. We clapped our hands and kept the beat with slow steady taps. Tom sang loud and made us all laugh with his funny face. Sara sang soft and we all hushed to hear her clear sweet voice. When the song was done we clapped again and bowed with smiles. The man with the drum hit it once more for a final loud beat. We stood up and bowed like stars on stage and felt proud and glad.
